Gwendolyn Mishoe-Jones Obituary

Gwendolyn Lee Mishoe Jones was the third of six children born to Henry Cannon Mishoe, Sr. and Cirlester (Lissie) Sellers Mishoe on January 6, 1944 in Wilmington, North Carolina, New Hanover County. Gwendolyn graduated from Williston Senior High School in Wilmington.  In pursuit of a career in nursing, Gwendolyn moved to New York City where she met her husband to be Ronald Lee Jones, Sr. Vietnam and US Navy Veteran.  The wedding took place in Charleston, South Carolina and the family was blessed with Ronald’s children Teresa and Ronald Jr.  They remained in Charleston, South Carolina until his orders changed to various locations during his military career.  Years later, they made their home in Johns Island, South Carolina. Gwendolyn was always diligent in her employment career and retired in 2014 after numerous years of service in nursing.

From a Christian AME family, Gwendolyn sought membership at an AME Church. Her late uncle, Dr. Luna Isaac Mishoe was a member of the General Board of the AME Church and President of Delaware State College, so she remained AME.  She joined St. Luke AME Church in Charleston, South Carolina and served on the Usher Board.  Gwendolyn also was a member of Cannon Street Baptist Church in Charleston, South Carolina and served on the Pastor’s Aid & Usher Board.  Her service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was one of devotion.

Due to her illness, Gwendolyn was relocated to Girvin Subdivision in Jacksonville, Florida, where her sister Martha cared for her.  As her health continued to decline, Gwendolyn received care from Community Hospice & Palliative Care, Jacksonville, Florida, and additional care from beloved friends and supporters seen and unseen.  Family friend Richard Swafford helped as much as possible and others included: Mrs. Marva Jean Beauford, Mrs. Eleanor Thompson, Dr. Eddie Collins, Mrs. Josephine and Ms. Rena Pitts, Ms. Dena Swank, and members and officers of St. Andrew AME Church.  After the passing of her sister, Gwendolyn was temporarily placed in Avante at Jacksonville Beach Nursing Home, while her remaining siblings were going through the process to move her closer to them in Virginia.  During that time, Gwendolyn continued to receive great care from Community Hospice & Palliative Care, Jacksonville, Florida.  On Tuesday, May 14, 2019 at 3:45am, her final move from labor to reward occurred and she peacefully transitioned from life to life eternal.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Henry & Cirlester Mishoe; her husband, Ronald Lee Jones, Sr.; sisters, Jeanette Mishoe Schriner and Martha Mae Mishoe Kiser; brother-in-law, Odell Kiser, Sr.; and numerous other loved ones.  Cherishing her loving memories are: her stepchildren, Teresa Jones and Ronald Jones Jr., OH; cousin/son, Tremayne McKeiver, VA; her sisters, Fannie Mishoe Cabbagestalk (Tommy), NY and Lois Mishoe, VA; her brother, Henry Cannon Mishoe Jr., (Helena), MD; her aunt, Mrs. Cecelia Simmons Mishoe Harrison, MD; her uncle Arlington Sellers, Sr., NJ; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, former co-workers, neighbors and friends.
