Helen Eloid Chapman was born on May 4, 1931 in Helena, Arkansas. She was the third child of the late Willie Ed and Samantha Blackwell. The family moved to St. Louis when Helen was a young child where she was educated in the St. Louis Public School System.
In 1953, she became the wife of the late George W. Chapman, Jr. They were married almost for almost 67 years. Their union was blessed with six children, Lewis Blackwell (deceased, spouse: Gloria), Frances Roe (spouse Wilbur), George Chapman, Jr., Michael Chapman (spouse: Bernadine), Dawna Chapman, and Teresa Bardu (spouse: Seth). Helen had 14 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Helen was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. She managed her home very efficiently and was an excellent cook. Countless numbers of extended family, church members, friends, and neighbors sat around her dining room table enjoying the delicious food she had prepared for Sabbath dinner.
Helen was a faithful member of the Berean Seventh-day Adventist Church in St. Louis, Missouri for over 50 years. She was a Deaconess as well as an active member of the Community Service Department.
In addition to Helen’s five children, she leaves behind scores of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and church members to cherish her memory and honor her legacy. We will miss Helen’s matriarchal presence in our family.
