Inez Waters Obituary

Inez Patricia Waters was born October 3, 1938. Affectionately known as “Nonie”, she was the last of nine children born to Edward N. and Melanese “Anna” Scott Brown.

Inez accepted Jesus as her Savior at an early age serving faithfully at Wrightsville United Methodist Church. She was in the final graduating class from the Boylan-Haven School for Girls and attended Florida Community College at Jacksonville. She married Floyd L. Waters on August 1, 1959, and became a U.S. Navy wife. From that union were born one daughter and three sons.

In addition to caring for her family, she worked at Reno’s Pharmacy, Duval County Medical Center, Diana’s Shop, and served as a U.S. Census Bureau worker.

She remained steadfastly involved in religious life by serving in the choir, women’s auxiliaries, and as first lady at McCabe United Methodist Church, Asbury United Methodist Church, Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church, and Alexander United Methodist Church (now known as Alexander Memorial Church), where she remained a faithful member.

Inez was a doting daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother, aunt, and godmother caring for all in need. She was the matriarch of the Brown family where she was always revered and consulted for her wisdom.

Inez gained her heavenly wings on Wednesday, April 1, 2026. She was predeceased by her parents; daughter, Patricia Ann Waters; and eight siblings, Edward L. Brown, Joseph C. Brown, Sr., Merlin A. Brown, Sylvester P. Brown, Walter B. Brown, Roy A. Brown, Sr., Frank A. Brown, and Ethel V. Brown Stephens.

Inez leaves many to cherish her memory, devoted husband of sixty-six years, Floyd L. Waters, Sr.; loving sons, Floyd (Bridgette), Eric (Lynn), and Dana (Marie); grandchildren, Dana Michelle Maule (Terry), Kenyon Rodgers, Kareem Sharpe (Mark), Jordan Waters, Knilah Waters, Cora Barker (Jeremiah) and Summer Cupidon-Clark (Adrian); great-grandchildren, Knight Maule, David Maule, Andre Maule, Makiah Rodgers, Ja’Tavia Smith, Kaleb Rodgers, Sharifa Harrigan, Kliston Collins, Noel Barker, and Marlee Clark; great-great grandson, Mateo Hernandez; nephews, Al Brown, Ronald “Ronnie” Brown, Maurice Brown, Randall Stephens, Roy Brown (Kim), Darryl Brown, Chauncey Brown, Harold Brown (Brenda), and Charles Brown (Penny); nieces, Anna Brown, Nora Martin, Pat Brown, Wendell Petty (Stanley), Betty Brown, Marcia Carter (James), Gail Brown, Sylvia “Corlette” Mitchell (David), Lisa Buggs, and Misha Brown; special friends, Vilma Muir, Tommie McNeil, Jackie Zilton, and Keith Howard; and a host of sorrowing nephews, nieces, other relatives, and friends. This list is incomplete because in Inez’s eyes, she is survived by every family member and their descendants.
