James Earl Thomas, Jr., affectionately known as "JET," departed this life on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at the age of 65, in his hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Born on July 13, 1959, JET was a cherished son of Deacon James Earl Thomas, Sr. and Johnnie Mae Thomas, who both preceded him in death, along with his beloved sisters, Cynthia Carter and Joann Christiani.
JET was a proud product of Duval County Public Schools, graduating from Samuel W. Wolfson High School in the Class of 1977. His lifelong journey began in Jacksonville, where he was admired for his outgoing personality and his ability to light up any room he entered.
In his professional life, JET dedicated over twenty-five years as a Furniture Installer, earning the respect of colleagues and clients alike. His commitment to quality work and his keen eye for detail made him a standout in his field.
Outside of work and family, JET had a passion for life that was evident in his hobbies and interests. He loved to fish, shrimp, and barbeque, often sharing his culinary delights with friends and family. JET was also a dedicated fan of the Miami Dolphins, and his Sundays were often spent cheering for his team with enthusiasm and joy.
On May 23, 1987, in a beautiful ceremony held in Miami, Florida, JET married the love of his life, Sharon Marvett Courtney. Their union was a testament to love, companionship, and mutual respect, and together, they created a loving family. JET is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon, and their beloved daughter, Jessica Williams, who is married to Charlie Williams. JET took immense joy in being a grandfather to his cherished grandchild, Camden “Bud” Williams, whose laughter and energy brought him endless happiness.
JET is also survived by his sisters, Sandra Lowery (John) and Sabrina Jordan (Vincent), as well as sisters-in-law Janice Courtney-Stephens and Lillette Lee. He had a special bond with his goddaughter, Danielle McMorries, and leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends who will miss him dearly.
Though JET has left this earthly realm, his spirit, love, and memories will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. James Earl Thomas, Jr. "JET" will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His warmth, generosity, and zest for life touched the lives of many, and he will be sorely missed. May he rest in peace.
