Janice Jones Obituary

"There is not enough time on earth for all I would have enjoyed doing, but having lived and toiled, I'd like to believe that my soul ultimately left a lasting impression on others.”

On the morning of Thursday, July 3, 2025, Sister Janice LaVern Jiles Jones peacefully answered the Lord’s call. With her heart full and her soul ready, she slipped away quietly, content and prepared to be free.

Born on August 18, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, Janice was the fifth of eight children born to the late Sam and Louise Jiles. She graduated from Stanton Senior High School in 1965 and went on to build a life marked by devotion, humility, and unwavering love for others.

In June of 1975, Janice united in Holy Matrimony with Mr. Ronald L. Jones, a loving bond that stood strong until his passing in May 2008. Together, they built a home filled with faith, family, and enduring love.

Janice worked in the retail industry, retiring from K-Mart, and later opened an in-home daycare-a reflection of her boundless love for children and her nurturing spirit. Her heart was especially tender toward those in need, and she served as a caregiver to many, most tenderly her beloved daughter Roberta, who preceded her in death.

A faithful servant of Christ, Janice accepted the Lord at an early age at Central Baptist Church. Her journey in faith continued as she supported ministries across the country while fulfilling her role as a devoted military wife.  Her spiritual walk remained steadfast until her passing, under the pastoral care of Rev. Dr. Robert E. Herring, Sr., Mt. Bethel Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member of District #12 under the leadership of Deacon Michael Jones, Sr.  She was also a member of the Missionary Society, the Clothes Closet, the S.A. Thomas Choir and lead the Food Pantry overseeing the compilation and distribution of food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas until her health failed.

To know Janice was to experience her kindness, humility, and gentle soul. Her acts of love and service left an indelible mark on all who knew her. While our hearts mourn her absence, we rejoice knowing her spirit is now at peace in the presence of the Lord.

Janice was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald; her children, Roberta and Ronald Jr.; her parents, Sam and Louise Jiles; and siblings Sammie, Sharon, Shirley, James (“Tip”), and Johnnie.

She leaves behind to celebrate her life and cherish precious memories, a glowing legacy in the lives of her children, Wakita Standifer (William), Kye Purnell Campbell-Jones (Darlene), and Rhonda Jones. Her light continues in her grandchildren, Riia Standifer, Kye Campbell-Jones, Jr., Zyon Standifer, Keara and Keana Jones, Taylor Jones Yates, Christopher and Lauren Jones; her great-grandchild, Riera M. Rose; and a loving and devoted best-friend, Betty Williams-Davis.

She is also survived by her loving sister, Mary Hollimon (Rev. Wallace); her brother, Lorenzo Jiles (Terri); brothers-in-law, Alec Jones (Merle) and John Brown; sisters-in-law, Florence Jiles and Faye Margrezelle Jones; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

Sister Janice Jiles Jones lived a life of grace, humility, and purpose. Her memory will live on through the many lives she touched with her kindness and faith.

“Well done, good and faithful servant…Enter into the joy of your Lord”- Matthew 25:23
