Joan Aretha Wright-Davis affectionately known as “Joann” was born on February 5, 1934 in Jacksonville, Florida. She was the oldest of 9 children born to the late Florida Bryant and Gilbert Wright, Jr. She graduated from Stanton High School in 1952 and continued her education graduating from Edward Waters College in 1962 with her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.
In October of 1955, she married James Davis, Jr. and to their union three children were born, Michael, Linda and Gary.
She was employed with the Duval County Public school system for over 30 years and was a devoted teacher at Dinsmore Elementary until she retired in 1999.
In 1990, she gave her life to the Lord and was a devoted member at Hope Chapel Ministries, under the leadership of Apostle Dr. Jeannette C. Holmes-Vann. She faithfully participated in Vacation Bible School and Women’s Fellowship.
Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, James Davis, Jr.; and her daughter, Linda Marie Davis.
Joan’s earthly journey transitioned on Tuesday, June 2, 2020.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Michael Eugene Davis and Gary James Davis, Sr. (Monique); siblings, Clanzel Johnson, Jacqueline Chandler (Clifford), Herbert Wright (Lana), Carolyn Hughes (King David), Arthuree Knox, Gilbert Wright, Deborah Dugger and Sheryl Taylor (Paul); grandchildren, Gary James Davis, Jr., (Fatima), Jason Michael Davis (Tessie), Justin Eugene Davis, Bryan Davis (Lawanda), Bianca Marie Davis (Corey) and Jamari DeAngelo Davis; 11 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and sorrowing friends.
