Joann was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 25, 1943 to the loving parents of Julius and Lilly Mae Mullino. Joann was educated in the Duval County school system.
Joann at a very young age was a baptized believer and Lover of Christ. As a young lady a love story with John T. Mallory, Sr. was in the making. Though several years had passed, on April 4, 1969. Their love story began. Married over 56 years they never left each other’s side. Their love for each other stood the test of time, through richer and poor, through sickness and health, till death did they part. During these years of marriage Joann joined and served at Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church as an usher. Later they both moved their membership to Greater Grant African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Joann worked many years for her sister’s restaurant Sophie’s Place and Jones daycare. Later a career began where she worked tirelessly and dedicated 25 years of her life to JC Penny’s.
Joann was diagnosed and battled Multiple Myeloma, which is a bone cancer since 2017 but always remained faithful.
Joann was a part of a large family. Preceded in death was her parents: Julius Mullino and Lilly Mae Mullino-Whitehead son JoAnthony Mullino, brothers Clearence Young, Murphy Armstrong, William Young, Donald Whitehead, and Oliver Whitehead, Sisters Shirley Jones, Loretta Brazil and Victoria Gordon. Brothers in Law Leroy (Pee Wee) Mallory and James Brant Sr., Sisters in law Florence Young and Shellye Hamilton.
She leaves to cherish precious memories with her devoted husband, John T. Mallory, Sr.; children, Joe Nathan Scruggs, Valerie Hayes (Morris), Josephine Morris, Jeffrey Kelly (Sharri) and John T. Malory, II (Sabrina); two brothers, Ronald Whitehead and Gary Whitehead; sister, Barbara Brown; 23 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren; brother-in-law, David Hamilton; sisters-in-law, Patricia Grays, Phyllis Jordan-Washington, Brenda Mallory-Small (Felton), Denise Brant and Shirley Armstrong; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a great deal of family and friends.
As she would affectionately say “LOVE IN THE HOUSE” she showed it to everyone she encountered. Joann you will truly be missed.
