Many hearts and lives have been blessed and touched by the life of "Our Gentle Giant". John Edward Franklin, Sr., son of Reverend Ford Franklin, Sr. and Marie Collins Franklin departed this life on Thursday, May 15, 2025.
John was born and raised in Shreveport, Louisiana. A proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High School, class of 1971. He moved to Topeka, Kansas where he was employed with the United States Post Office.
Later John relocated to Jacksonville, Florida. On November 25, 1978, he was joined in Holy Matrimony to Sandra Brooks at Faust Temple Church of God in Christ. He joined Philippian Community Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Lawrence C. Callahan, Sr. and presiding Bishop Virgil C. Jones, Sr.
John honorably served as a reservist in the Marine Corps from 1972 to 1978. During this time also became a talented mechanic with a love for fixing cars. He shared his skills without hesitation, tirelessly offering his help to those in need. Beyond his abilities, John was a devoted husband, son, sibling, father, and friend, enriching the lives of many through his generous spirit.
John was preceded in death by his father, Reverend Ford Franklin, Sr.; mother, Marie Collins Franklin; and brother, Benjamin Franklin.
John leaves behind a legacy of love to cherish his memories, wife, Sandra Franklin; four sons Renard Seals, John Franklin, Jr. (Melissa), Kevin Franklin (Chrystal) and Joshua Franklin; four daughters, Lakesha Franklin, Tenika Franklin, Rebecca Mills (Willis) and Racheal Franklin; siblings, Hattie Franklin, Ford Franklin, Jr. (Angie), Roberta Jolly, Donna Franklin, and Kathy Franklin; sisters-in-law, Wanda Harrell and Sharon Lipscomb (Barry); brothers-in-law, Dennis Nelson (Cheryl), Bobby Brooks(Gina) and Kenneth Brooks; twelve grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
