John Hargrove Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of John Matthew Hargrove, who left this world on Friday, May 30, 2025, at the age of 57. Born on June 6, 1967, in Pennsylvania, John's journey through life was marked by love, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to his family and friends.

John spent his formative years in New York City, where he developed a strong work ethic and a passion for life that would carry him through to adulthood. After relocating to Newport News, Virginia, he embraced new opportunities and challenges, eventually finding his career as a dedicated meat cutter. His skill in the trade was matched only by his willingness to help others, always extending a helping hand to those in need.

John was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Sandra Brown-Hargrove, whom he married on a day that was just as bright and full of promise as his spirit. Together, they built a life filled with laughter, warmth, and shared dreams. John was not just a husband; he was a nurturing father and a proud grandfather. He is survived by his son, Johnathan Jones, and daughter-in-law, Anita, along with his cherished grandson, Ashton Jones. His legacy extends to his children, Corey Brown, Enik Sanders, and Teresa Brown, and his beloved grandchildren: Don-Tavis Brown, JaCorey Brown, Dynasty Brown, Cortavis Brown, Comari Brown, MaKenzie Rowe, Kingston Rowe and Kenyarda Elliott. John’s family was his pride and joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind a vast network of relatives, including a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Hargrove and Barbara Ann Brittany, as well as his siblings, all of whom welcomed him with open arms in the embrace of eternity.

Outside of his professional life, John enjoyed a variety of hobbies that reflected his creative spirit. He had a passion for scrapping items and undertaking small projects to renovate homes, showcasing his knack for transforming the ordinary into something beautiful. A lifelong football fan, he passionately supported his favorite teams, the New England Patriots and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, often gathering with friends and family to cheer them on.

John’s life was a testament to the importance of family, community, and the joy of simple pleasures. His kindness, humor, and unwavering support will be remembered by all who knew him. He had an extraordinary ability to make those around him feel special and loved, and his presence will be sorely missed.

As we celebrate the life of John Matthew Hargrove, let us carry forward his spirit of generosity, his love for family, and his passion for life. Rest in peace, dear John. Your memory will forever be etched in our hearts.
