Ms. Johnnie M. Dright, 84 was born to the late Gus Cotton and Neomia Sutton-Cotton-Brinkley. She was preceded in death by her sister, Dorothy Cotton Bright; and brothers, St. Thomas Cotton and Willie James Cotton. She is survived by her son, Daryl Dright of New York; sister, Idonia Jackson; and brother, Willie Marvin Cotton both of Macon, Ga.
Johnnie Marie Dright was educated within the Bibb County School system and received her high school diploma from G.W Carver in Macon Georgia. Her desire to learn led her to new endeavors that included becoming a registered nurse. Who knew the journey she embarked on so many years ago, would serve as a fulfilling career in the medical field for over 50 years until her retirement from New York Presbyterian Hospital.
Whether it was fashion, gifts or simply conversation she brought her New York flare to everything she did. As a retiree, Johnnie decided to trade in the big city lights and snow for the Florida sunshine where she spent the remainder of her years with special nieces, Diane Brown, Adrian Hayes and Deneen Brown serving as her caregivers.
Famously known to many friends and family members as “Dallas” she was a woman whose presence was larger than life. As a devoted mother she will be immensely missed by her son and forever in the hearts of all those that knew her.
Sarah L. Carter’s Funeral Home Northside is serving the family.
