Jonathan Jamaal Gaines, born on August 8, 1989, in Detroit, Michigan, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida. He was a dedicated employee at Amazon, where he was respected and valued by his colleagues.
Jonathan had a deep passion for life, which was evident in his diverse hobbies and interests. He cherished his family and friends above all, always ensuring he spent quality time with them. An ardent fan of the Los Angeles Lakers, he rarely missed a game and enjoyed discussing the team's strategy and performance. His love for his dogs, Zeus and Zena, was profound, and they were a constant source of joy and companionship in his life.
Jonathan also had a keen sense of style, always dressed impeccably, and expressed his emotions and thoughts through poetry. His love for travel took him to various destinations, enriching his life with diverse cultures and experiences.
Jonathan is survived by his loving mother, Winifred Gaines, and a large family including his siblings Fredrick Gaines IV, Ebony Lloyd, Alicia Gaines, Derrick Lloyd Sr., Earlene Lloyd, and Chester Lloyd Sr. He was a cherished uncle to Rhiana Youmans, Amina Gaines, JaQuan Lawrence, ShaQuan Lawrence, and Derrick Lloyd, Jr. His family extended to his grandfather Henry Ward; aunts, Leslie Gaines, June Wells, Johnetta Bogins, Robin Williams, Regina Johnson, Lena Frisby, Paulette Estrella, Gail White and Sally Young; uncles, John Bogins, Antonio Sanford and Henry Johnson; great aunts, Maryanne Penn, Tina Robinson, and Sheila Curry; one uncle, Richard Curry and a wide circle of friends and relatives who will miss him deeply. He also leaves behind special friends such as Reginald Stevenson, Bo Bussey, Paris Evans, Briana Gordon, Ingrid Williams, Delecia Gonzalez, and eighteen first cousins who were significant in his life.
Jonathan was preceded in death by his father, Fredrick Gaines, Sr.; his beloved dog, Zeus Gaines, along with his grandparents, John Bogins Sr., Johnnie Robinson, Fredrick Gaines III, Melva Ward, Christine Clark and Easter Lampkin; great aunts, Cynthia Curry, Mary Philo, Lucinda Bogins and Louise Bogins; and great uncles, Gregory Curry, David Curry Sr., Paul Bennett and Walter Robinson.
His life was a vivid tapestry of love, commitment, and community, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
