Josephine Turnbull, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend, peacefully passed away on Thursday, December 11, 2025.
Josephine was born on December 18, 1960, to the parentage of the late Dorothy Nell Askew and Willie Gates. She was a proud graduate of Mills Town High School, class of 1979 in Mill Town, Alabama. After graduating, she ventured to Jacksonville, Florida where she built her life, family and legacy, later marrying Selvin Turnbull.
Josephine accepted Christ and was a devoted and faithful member of Love, Faith, Peace Deliverance Temple, where she served and worshipped with dedication. She was also known for her strong work ethic and commitment to excellence. Josephine was employed for many years at Woodland Grove, where she served as the Laundry/Housekeeping Supervisor and built lasting relationships with employees, and staff whom she considered extended family.
Josephine will be remembered for her infectious smile, being a ray of sunshine, and for the unconditional love she poured into her family and all who knew her.
Josephine was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Ny’asia Staples; her brothers, Val Askew and Stackson Askew; and her sister, Linda Hagan.
Josephine leaves to cherish her loving memory, her devoted husband, Selvin Turnbull; her sons, Nikkia Staples (Latoya) and Justin McClendon; her sisters, Rachel Askew, Patricia Gathers and Minnie White (Earnest); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three special aunts; one great-aunt; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Josephine’s love, strength, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
