Kaela R. Phelps was born on May 18, 2000 to the parentage of Raeshawn Phelps and Janaria Atkins in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the local schools of Duval County graduating from Sandlewood High School and had ambitions to become a Registered Nurse. She always dreamed of owning a non-profit for kids who had heart transplants. She had a heart of gold and wanted to give back to those who understood and shared her journey.
Kaela accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. She was the most kind, fun-loving and amazing person. She was always an ear to listen and the best friend anyone could have. At the young age of four, Kaela was diagnosed with cardiomyopathy and as a result received a heart transplant at five. We were blessed with fifteen more years with her presence. During her time, she was a blessing to other in so many ways.
Kaela had a smile that would light up any room. She possessed a special charm and wit that was soothing to others. No matter the circumstance she could always manage to make you laugh.
Kaela passed away at the age of twenty on Tuesday, October 6, 2020. Although she is no longer here in the physical, she will always be here in sprit. Kaela will be missed dearly.
Kaela leaves to mourn her passing but to cherish her memories, her parents, Raeshawn Phelps (Maeghan) and Janaria Atkins; sisters, Janai Griffin, Raegan Phelps, Jayla Phelps and Naudia Griffin; brothers, Kiambre Phelps, Jaelen Phelps and Nard Griffin; grandmothers, Lynette Jenkins, Barbara Atkins and Patricia Irving (Norris); aunts, Ketia Stephens (Jarel), Jessica Jenkins and Marvette Atkins; uncle, Jamie Atkins; special friends, Myresha and Shontrenise; and a host of cousins and friends.
