Kenneth Hoyt Wilson, a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, made his eternal transition on Friday, July 4, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on September 13, 1942, in Jacksonville, Florida, Kenneth lived a life full of love, service, and dedication to his family and community.
Kenneth was the cherished son of Leroy Zellner and Annie Belle Wilson, who both preceded him in death, along with his brothers, Reginald Wilson and Earl Wilson, grandson, Gavan Dunn and brother-in-law, Esmond Barnes.
Kenneth's educational journey began in the Duval County Public Schools, where he attended Forest Park Elementary, James Weldon Johnson High School, and later New Stanton High School. His thirst for knowledge and love for reading, especially the Bible, guided him throughout his life.
A proud veteran, Kenneth joined the United States Army on September 14, 1959, and served his country honorably until his discharge on September 5, 1962. He bravely served in the Vietnam War, and his military service instilled in him a profound sense of duty and camaraderie, often reminiscing about his military family with great fondness.
In his personal life, Kenneth was a man of many interests and passions. He loved cooking and sharing meals with family and friends, often filled with laughter and stories. His love for Gospel music filled his home, bringing joy and peace to those around him. He had a keen interest in politics and electronics, but above all, Kenneth's heart was always with his family. He was known for his kindness, willingness to help others, and his compassionate spirit—qualities that endeared him to all who knew him.
Kenneth was also an active member of the American Legion Post, where he found camaraderie with fellow veterans, sharing experiences and supporting one another in the embrace of community. Kenneth was a devoted member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church where he served as an Usher. He also was a 32nd Degree Mason and a Freight Master.
Kenneth was married to Helen Powell for twenty-five years; although their marriage ended, they remained good friends, showcasing Kenneth's ability to maintain meaningful relationships throughout his life.
Kenneth is survived by his loving daughters, Errica Brown and Diana Cross (Adrian), and his son, Kenneth Wilson (Samantha). His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Wantaise Davis, Britni Wilson (Bryan), Brandon Dunn, Taylor Cross, and Kennedi Wilson, as well as his god-daughter, Sophia Howell (Joseph). Kenneth also leaves behind brothers, William Edward Wilson, Johnny Zellner, and James Bradwell, as well as his sister, Lillie Yvonne Wilson-Barnes. He was a beloved uncle to his nephews and niece, including, Kevin Alexander, Brian Alexander (Denise), Michael Alexander, Karl Bishop (Kandi), Art Bishop, Armar Wagner, Omar Wagner and Doris Vasser. His friends, including Willie and Gail Warren, Lynda Greene, Sammie Turner, Juanita Simmons and Nancy Stanglish, will forever remember him as a great person, always ready to lend a helping hand or share a kind word.
Kenneth Hoyt Wilson will be missed dearly, yet his spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of his family and friends, reminding us all of the importance of kindness, service, and the love of family.
