Ms. LaTonya Stephens Cohen, affectionately known as Tonya, was born September 25, 1974. She was a graduate of William M. Raines Sr. High School, Class of 1992. While attending William M. Raines Sr. High School, she was a member of the Ladies of Beta Club and known as Bumble Bee (#20). She was also a devoted member in the William M. Raines Viking Marching Band as a leading majorette with exceptional flame-throwing baton twirling talent.
After graduation from Raines, Tonya spent 7-8 years in Japan honing her culinary skills in Japanese cuisine. When she arrived back home in the United States, she utilized her skills to cater to her family, friends, colleagues, her neighborhood family, and the masses of her children's friends. In her lifetime, Tonya became a mother figure and support system to many. She was blessed with four beautiful children. She also adopted her niece, Chelsey, who was born with cerebral palsy, and cared for her until her passing several years ago.
Tonya was a well-respected business professional in floral and wreath designs and other custom creations, including NFL, NBA, college, and personalized paraphernalia. She also offered her talents as a personal event chef for Purple Orchid Events. Tonya was a Jackie-of-All-Trades. She maintained her endeavors as long as she was able.
Tonya was preceded in heaven by her parents, Mr. Samuel Stephens and Mrs. Lola Stephens; her siblings, Samuel Carl Stephens, Jr., Debra Stephens, Gayle Stephens, Cheryl Elaine Stephens, and Kimberly Stephens; her uncle, Daniel "Uncle Danny"; niece, Crystal Wadell; and great-niece, Chelsey Cohen.
Tonya is survived by her children, Byron Preston, Sharronda Cohen, Ronald Cohen III, and JaRon Cohen. In addition to her children, she leaves two cherished grandchildren, D'Nylah Cohen and Ronda Cohen; her fiancé, Harold "Pac-Man" Thomas; one sibling, Terri Gates; nieces, Terrica Gates and Tera Gates; a host of great-nieces and great-nephew her god-sister and truest friend, Candra Lochard "Candi"; ex-husband, Ronald Cohen Jr.; and an extensive host of sorrowing aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighborhood children, exceptional friends, and colleagues.
On Thursday, November 13, 2025, Tonya transitioned to eternal life leaving a legacy of love, faith, and dedication to her children and family. She will be forever remembered by everyone who was blessed to know her.
