Lacey Smith, Jr. Obituary

Lacey Smith Jr. was born on March 27, 1941, to the proud parents of Lace Smith Sr. and Varis Smith in Cochran, Georgia. He attended the local schools graduating from Cochran High School and Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, Florida.

Lacey lived life marked by distinction, service, curiosity, and joy. His presence filled every room with warmth, intelligence, and effortless charm. Born with a spirit anchored in faith, Lacey gave his life to Christ at an early age. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, carrying the discipline, honor, and resilience of a Marine throughout his life.

Professionally, he worked for many years with United Parcel Service, where he retired as a Division Manager. Never one to limit his ambitions, Lacey also became a successful real estate agent and mortgage broker.

Deeply engaged in his community, he was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated, the NAACP, and an active participant in the Camden County Chamber of Commerce.

Lacey was a man of boundless curiosity, a natural conversationalist who delighted in the outdoors and loved his family immensely. He pursued general aviation pilot training and became an avid golfer. Though distinguished in demeanor and accomplishments, he remained approachable and warm, with a great sense of humor. He listened intently, laughed fully, and even danced and sang on occasion. He leaves behind a legacy of service and achievement; one that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Lacey Smith Jr. went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, June 4, 2026. Lacey was preceded in death by one niece, Varis Veronica Smith; both parents, Lace Sr. and Varis Smith; three brothers, Tyrone Smith, Wright Harold Smith and William Henry Smith; and sisters, Roslyn Smith Jones and Linda Smith.
