Laurel Mitchell Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurel Anita Mitchell, who left this world on Friday, April 11, 2025, in her hometown of Jacksonville, Florida. Born on November 14, 1972, Laurel brought joy and inspiration to all who knew her during her 52 years on this earth.

Laurel was the beloved daughter of Elder Henry L. Mitchell and Evangelist Estella M. Mitchell, who provided her with a nurturing and faith-filled upbringing. Growing up in Jacksonville, she took her formative years to heart, gaining a strong foundation through her early childhood training at home and at Spicer Kiddie Korner. She continued her education at St. Patrick Catholic School, San Jose Catholic School, and S. P. Livingston Sixth Grade Center. Laurel furthered her academic journey at Ribault Middle and Senior High Schools, eventually achieving an Associate's Degree from FCCJ Junior College. Her thirst for knowledge led her to Florida State University, where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, followed by a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Nova University.

Throughout her professional career, Laurel dedicated herself to serving others. She began her journey with Duval County Public Schools as a Substitute Teacher, where she touched the lives of countless students. She also worked with Prudential Insurance Company and served as a Sales Representative for Stein Mart. Her compassion and commitment to the community were evident in her role at the Oceanway Boys and Girls Club, and later as a Social Worker with WellCare and Sunshine Health of Florida serving both Jacksonville and Fort Lauderdale. Each position she held was a testament to her unwavering desire to uplift and support those around her.

Laurel was a member of the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Bishop S.P. Nesbitt. Under the pastorship of the late Elder Henry L. Mitchell, her father of Whole Truth Deliverance Ministries Laurel received Christ and was baptized by the late Elder Henry L. Mitchell. She was an active member serving in various capacities as Director of Health and Wellness, (teacher) Minister of Music serving on the Outreach Ministry and Pastor’s Administrative Assistant. She was a diligent and faithful member serving until death.

Laurel is survived by her loving mother, Evangelist Estella M. Mitchell; her cherished brother, Dwayne L. Mitchell; and a host of aunts, including Versie Lee (William), Mary A. Jackson (Richard), and Jacquelyn Harris (James). She was also deeply loved by her godmother, Agnes W. Crews, and godfather, Donnell Crews. In addition to her immediate family, she leaves behind a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends who will forever hold her memory close to their hearts.

Laurel’s life was characterized by her kindness, generosity, and the profound impact she had on her community. Her spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those she inspired, and her legacy will serve as a guiding light for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Laurel Anita Mitchell, a cherished daughter, sister, and friend, will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her life was a beautiful gift, and her legacy of love will continue to resonate in the lives of many.
