Lillie Edwards Obituary

Lillie B. Edwards was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was born to the late Henry C. and Lula Mae Glover on December 25, 1938 in Butler, Alabama. Lillie learned to read and write from Choctaw County public school, the value of hard work and endurance from her father and how to express unfaltering kindness and forbearance from her mother.

She moved to Jacksonville, Florida with her then husband, the late Robert Lee Edwards and their growing family in the 1950’s. Lillie later met and shared a lifelong relationship with her companion, the late Jessie L. Thomas. From very humble beginnings and in the midst of great adversity, she found a way to make a good home for her eight children and raised them with wisdom, discipline and dedication.

Lillie worked various occupations to provide for her family including housekeeping, catering and co-founding Thomas Lawn Service landscaping business. Although she was the best at everything she did, she remained a farmer at heart. Her beautiful vegetable gardens were filled with the tenderest collard greens, sweetest sweet potatoes and plumpest tomatoes. And her meticulously manicured yard was surrounded by the most radiant flowers and exquisite plants.

She also enjoyed creating delicious meals (of which she rarely shared the recipes), traveling to interesting places, attending church and spending time with family. Lillie will be remembered for many things; her strength, her beauty, her virtue, her caring heart, her countless talents and the long-lasting fragrance of fabric softener in her clothes. Yet, her most memorable quality was being a woman after God’s own heart. Her uncompromising faith in Jesus Christ was a beacon of light and inspiration to everyone she knew.

God saw fit to call home our greatest treasure, Lillie B. Edwards on March 21, 2021. Her passion for life did not end with her death, but carries on through her loved ones who will honor her legacy by living their lives to the fullest. She was preceded in death by her children, Carolyn Edwards and Robert Earl Edwards; granddaughter, Sheena Edwards; and siblings, Willie James Glover, Lucille Jones, Maple Jones and Eliza Edwards.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Willie Lee Edwards, Theartha Edwards, James Edwards (Angel), Larry Edwards (Carlenda), Irene Caupain (Kirk), Kim Harris, and Carol Young; raised as her son, Kevin Coleman (Anna); daughter-in-law, Annie Elizabeth Edwards; siblings, Dorothy Bishop, Ada Yarbrough, Henrietta Clark, Thomas Glover, Mary Uptgrow (Charles), Tenise Glover, James Charles Davis Sr. and Lillie Davis; brother-in-law, Joe Billy Edwards; and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.
