Lizzie Mae Downer Thompson was born on August 4, 1944 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Nathaniel and R.G. Downer in Elberton, Georgia. She was a graduate of Northwestern Junior and Senior High School class of 1962. She also attended Edward Waters College.
In June if 1962 while she was working at Continental Bowling Lanes, she met the loved of her life, Jack Thompson. The later were married on April 6, 1964 for 57 years. In this union they had two wonderful children. While traveling with her husband, she worked as a Civil Service worker in Germany, and later helped her son open “One Way Pizza” in Hinesville and Richmond Hill, Georgia. She also was the owner of Thompson Shoes. Lizzie volunteered with the food bank at E.W.C. She enjoyed baking, sewing, and taking care of her plants.
Lizzie quietly transitioned with grace and dignity on Saturday, September 25, 2021. She was preceded in death by her son, Keith Alvin Thompson; and parents, Mr. & Mrs. Nathaniel and R.G. Downer.
Lizzie leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted husband of 57 years, Jack M. Thompson; daughter, Terra Allene Solomon (Bradley); grandchildren, Cameron D. Solomon (Bethanie) and Jordan B. Solomon; great grandchild, Alyvia R. Solomon; brothers, Odell Downer (Wilma), Herbert Downer (Yvonne), Arcefus Downer (Cynthia), and Tommy Downer; sisters, Naomi Downer Bartley (Willie), Mattie M. Stephens, and Crystal Downer (Eric); in-laws, Gena Harmon, Marjorie Purcell (Calvin), Monica Johnson (Thadis), Voncretia Demps and Donald Payne; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and loving friends.
