Today we pause to pay respect and remember Sister Loretta Benjamin Ward. Born in Kingsferry, Florida on October 26, 1935 to Matthew, Sr. and Parthenia Benjamin. She was the 8th of 10 children. Her family later moved to Fernandina Bach where she graduated from Peck High School and raised five children. She was a custodian with Keystone Hotel for many years then later worked with Nassau County Janitorial.
Loretta married Dock Ward on June 28, 1970. The celebrated 28 years of marriage before his demise. She was baptized on May 28, 1971 and was a faithful member of First Missionary Baptist Church serving with District #3. Everyone knew that Mrs. Loretta Wards whom was called Rett by family and friends also knew she loved to be outside gardening with her flowers since she was a young lady. She always use to say, giver her her flowers while she was still alive.
On Thursday, May 27, 2021 Jesus sent His Angels to take her from her earthly home. God knows best. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Theresa E. Benjamin; parents, Matthew and Parthenia Benjamin; all of her brothers and sisters, Matthew Benjamin, Jr., Clyde Benjamin, James Benjamin, Cornell Benjamin, Dozell Benjamin, Alton Benjamin, Arthell Benjamin, Sylvester Benjamin and Elnora Hoggard; and one special granddaughter, Courtney.
She leaves to cherish such loving memories, her three daughters who strived to give her all that they could, Beverly Jones, Annette Benjamin (James) and Sandra Sanders (Thomas); six loving sons, Michael Benjamin, Richard Ward, Lee Ward, Michael Ward, Dock Ward and William Ward; four sisters-in-law, Ruth Benjamin, Shirley Benjamin, Irvadelia Haugabrook and Lillie Ramdarass; two brothers-in-law, Richard Ward and Augustus Ward; she had special heart daughters, Theresa King, Semoria Charles, Ka’Jah, Paula, Gretchen, Kita, Katlin and Kaomi; she always spoke of her Sylvia Horry and Lillian Gauthier with love; Mrs. Ward had 10 grandchildren, Terrell Jones, Larry Roberts, Gary Roberts, Jermaine Roberts (Mia), Loretta Garcia (Damacio), Terra Richardson (Anthonio), Michelle Albertie (Trez), Kuavis Jones, Michael Hunt (Christiana) and James Hunt; fourteen great grandchildren; eight great great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews whom she shared a special bond with especially Chauncie, Renae and Ed, Connie, Ms. Ann, Cornell Jr., Dozell Jr.; and a host of cousins and many sorrowing friends.
