Marcus Lyndell Bentley was born on September 1, 1970, in Jacksonville, Florida to loving parents, Lynn and Sallie Bentley. He graduated from Englewood High School class of 1988. After graduation he attended Paine College in Augusta, Georgia, and Lake City Community College on basketball scholarships before employment at Benjamin Moore Paint where he worked for many years.
Marcus met and married Michelle Creighton, from this union a son was born Trevor Bentley, within this union he reared and raised Derrick Gross as his own. Although they later divorced Marcus and Michelle remained friends. Later he met Suzette James, through this courtship his baby girl, Zanette Bentley was born.
Marcus was lovingly called “Bubba” by his family and 6’9 by his friends. He was an avid reader and seeker of knowledge and truth. He had a deep passion for learning about Philosophy, Psychology, Religion, World History (especially African American) and an array of context all of which shaped his views and perspective on life. He also had interest in firearms, dogs, and plants. While it seemed, he was quiet and reserved, he looked forward to discussions pertaining to subjects of politics and religion. He embraced his reputation as being a loner and deemed it as unique.
Marcus Lyndell Bentley transitioned this life of Friday, May 28, 2021, in Jacksonville, Florida. His last days was spent surrounded by his loving and caring family. As he battled cancer his warrior spirit and belief supported him through this struggle and gave him peace as he prepared for his transition.
Marcus’ legacy will live on through his sons, Trevor Bentley, and Derrick Gross; daughter, Zanette Bentley (mother, Suzette James); loving and devoted parents, Lynn and Sallie Bentley; brothers, Larry Bentley and Anthony Bentley (Melinda); sister, Lanesa Bentley; two grandchildren, Trenity Bentley and True Power Bentley (their mother, Faith Burrell); nephew, Antonio Bentley; nieces, Aaliyah Bentley, Nia Bentley, and Zaria Bentley; uncles, Charles Bentley (Carolyn) and Cleveland Hartley; aunts, Annie Bentley, Leila Bentley, Mary Singletary, Diane Evans, Thelma Graham, and Bobbie Jean Oliver; fiancé, Suzette James; and a host of cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
