Margaret Browder-Bailey Obituary

Margaret Lois Browder-Bailey (affectionately known as Margaret Lois or Granny) was born on January 30, 1949 in Troy, Alabama to the late parents of Lillie Mae Browder and Herbert West. Margaret relocated to Jacksonville, Florida at the tender age of 3 and grew up on the Southside of town. Margaret attended Douglas Anderson High School in Jacksonville and subsequently pursued her CNA LICENSE while enrolled at Jones College. Throughout her life, she held numerous positions, including roles at All About Blinds, The Strand, and City Place, until her health began to decline.

From an early age, Margaret developed an unwavering passion for cooking, earning the reputation of an exceptional cook and a discerning judge of others' culinary efforts. There was no dish she could not perfect, whether it involved preparing turtle, rabbit, or raccoon. In addition to her culinary talents, Margaret was an ardent admirer of country music and enjoyed watching classic Western television shows. Visitors to her home would often find her engrossed in programs such as "Law Man," "Cheyenne," "Gunsmoke," or "Bonanza."

Known for her forthright personality, Margaret was unafraid to speak her mind and was characterized by her honesty; those fortunate enough to have known her appreciated her candid nature. She formed friendships wherever she went, possessed a heart of gold, and was cherished by all.

On Friday, August 22, 2025, God placed the call for Margaret to take her rest, and she answered. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lillie Mae Brundage and Herbert West; her daughter, Diane Bailey; her son, Lonnie Bailey; her sister, Debra Browder; and her brother, Russell Brundage.

To forever cherish her life and legacy, Margaret leaves behind her children, John Bailey Jr. and Tracy (Alfonzo) Johnson; her grandchildren, Lonnie Gay, Alfonzo Johnson Jr., Kiara Johnson (“Mookie”), Jasmine Bailey, and Jamareon Barnes; and her great-grandchildren, Londyn (“La-Lina”), Alfonzo III, Alanna (“Big Head”), and Logan (“Lo-Lo”). She also leaves behind her sisters, Edna Wiggins, Gladys Owings (Willie), and Joanne Giles (Eric); her brother, Bruce Browder (Patricia); and her daughter-in-love, Kai Cuevas.

Her legacy will live on in a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins, as well as her special friends, Mark Alvin and Christine Martin.
