Ms. Mary James affectionately known as “Red” was born March 27, 1943 in Donaldsonville, Georgia to the late Cornelius and Homer Cull. Mary was raised by her aunt Jetta Moore after the passing of her mother at an early age. She accepted Jesus Christ at an early age attending Northside Church of Christ.
Mary attended Duval County public schools graduating from Matthew W. Gilbert High School in 1960. After graduation she married Benjamin James and from that union, she gave birth to her two children, Wanda “Pokey” James and Connie James. Mary retired in 1987 from Tyson Foods.
On Monday, September 25, 2023, Mary answered Jesus’ call and left her earthly tabernacle joining her beloved daughter, Wanda. Mary was the last surviving sibling and was preceded in death by her brothers, L.C., Willie, Cornelius, Radius, Anderson and Simon Cull; and sisters, Gwendolyn Porter and Lillie Cull-Harris.
Mary’s love for family was her greatest reward. She leaves to mourn her daughter, Connie Gibson (Gregory); grandson, Marquis Gibson; granddaughter, Fosteria Haigler (Ezekiel); great-grandchildren, Orlando Fedd, Jr., Marquis Gibson, Messiah Gibson and Marleigh Gibson. In addition to her children, Mary leaves to cherish memories to her extended sisters and brothers, Linda Wade, Carolyn McNeil, Lillian Scott, Lisa Moore, Harold Moore, Warren Moore and Robert Moore; devoted nephews, Tony Cull, Jeffrey Harris, Jack Collier and Semon Cull; devoted nieces, Alesia Lewis, Cynthia Cull, Sashia Harris, Kia Cull, Seburina Wynn and Ashley Williams; devoted friend, Alvinette Johnson.
