Mattie Hill Obituary

Sister Mattie M. Hill daughter of the late Robert and Lorene Wilcher was born September 29, 1945 in Jefferson County, Georgia. She grew up in a Christian home and attended the public schools in Wadley, Georgia.

Sister Mattie M. Hill moved to Brooklyn, New York in 1962 where she met and married John Hill on December 17, 1966. They had two children. In 1974 they moved to Jacksonville, Florida. She held several jobs in the healthcare industry including, Vicar’s Landing and Cypress Village where she worked for 10 years. Sister Mattie was a faithful member of the Church of the Living God under the leadership of Bishop Essie Starkes.

She was called to rest on Sunday, October 3, 2021. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Lorene Wilcher; three sisters, Sadie Winn, Irene Lewis, and Mattie Lucille Pringle; five brothers, Willie Gene Wilcher, Theodore Lamar Wilcher, Charlie Wilcher, Robert Wilcher and Eugene Wilcher.

Mattie leaves to cherish her memories, her husband, John W. Hill, Sr.; son, John Hill, Jr.; daughter, Connie L. Peterson (George); three grandchildren, Devonte Hill, John Taylor Hill, and Georale Peterson; one great granddaughter, Azaria Rose Hill; siblings, Ruthie Cody (Allen), Roger Wilcher (Paula) and Rufus Wilcher; in-laws, Cora Hill, Willie Hill, Vara Allen-Jones (Mitchell), Joyce Jones-Durant (Andrew), Annette Baker and Connie Thomas (Robert); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
