Alvetra Louise Gibbs-Davis, who departed this life on Saturday, May 17, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida. Born on July 28, 1969, in Fort Walton Beach, Florida, Alvetra was the beloved daughter of the late James L. Gibbs and Nora M. Gibbs.
At a young age, ministry started for Alvetra at her childhood church, Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church in Tallahassee, Florida. She graduated from Leon High School Class of 1987 in 2001, she relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where she spent over eight years as a dedicated Accounting Representative with the Jacksonville Zoo. She also worked for a few years at Florida Blue, where she was known for her strong work ethic and uplifting spirit.
In 2011, she answered her spiritual call and was ordained as an Exhorter and then as a Minister in 2014 at New Life Evangelistic Center, Inc. at Jacksonville where she ministered with grace, compassion, and unwavering faith. As a dedicated member she was a part of the choir, outreach and prison ministry.
To her friends and family, Alvetra was more than a sister, wife, mother, and minister—she was the glue that held everyone together. Known for her big heart, gentle wisdom, and an ever-ready word of prayer or encouragement, Alvetra never hesitated to lend a helping hand or speak life into those who needed it. Her presence was a gift, and her faith was a foundation for all who knew her. She will forever be missed.
Alvetra was preceded in death by her parents and her four brothers, James H. Gibbs, Kinawanna Gibbs, Jonathan Gibbs, and Ray Young. She is survived by her devoted husband of twenty-six years, Mack Charles Davis, and her four loving daughters, Yavonda Teleasa Washington (Dave), Shaundrea Yvette Jimenez, Elizabeth Ruth Marquise, and Dominique Nicole Davis. Alvetra also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren, Sha'Miyah, Makailah, Makeyla, Jordyn, Malaysia, Makenzie, and Cayden, who were the light of her life. She was as a loving Godmother to Jaylen James, Jasquita Smith, Kei’yanna Douglas and Mariah Peterson.
She is also survived by a large and loving family, including her siblings, Bruce Gibbs (Claudia), Howard Hughes, Rosalyn Gibbs, Reverend L. V. Gibbs (Tammy), Petula Aldridge, Tracy Autrey, Alvalida Gibbs, Andre Gibbs, Carolyn Nixon (William), Cicely Gibbs, and LaQuishia Gibbs-Jugger (Herbert); her aunt, Ida Holmes; her uncle, Oscar Lightfoot; mother-in-law, Lucinda Simons; brothers-in-law, Lorenzo Davis (Delores) and Charles Davis; sisters-in-law, Janet Haynes, Pamela, Sabrina, Loretta, and Samantha Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Among her dearest friends were Sylvia Brown, Faye Wilkerson, Tabitha Harris, Cassandra Dalmida, Mary Harris and Inger Stephens whose enduring bond with Alvetra reflected the love and loyalty she shared so freely.
