On July 24, 1932, the Lord sent an angel into this world to help cheer, comfort, and be an inspiration to many. Gracie Mae Allen was born to Essie and Daniel Allen in Saint George, Georgia, where she was reared, spent most of her life, and was well known and loved by the community. She was an agriculture worker and worked in the poultry industry with Gold Kist for many years. She was married to Floyd Larry and common law to Jimmy Branch. In her early years, she was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church of Saint George, Georgia, and attended Saint George Church of God. While living in Jacksonville, Florida, she was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church. After relocating to Douglas, Georgia, she joined Perpetual Praise & Worship Ministries and was a member until her demise.
Gracie grew up living a modest life. She was a friendly person who always looked out for her neighbors and shared farm fresh food with many. Despite her handicap, she was one of the hardest-working and dedicated individuals ever. She loved cooking for her family and the entire neighborhood. Her homemade buttermilk biscuits, dumplings, greens, and homemade cakes were enjoyed by many. She will be remembered as a meek person, full of respect, love, and compassion for others. She minded her own business. Gracie was the epitome of a supporter of her children and household. She professed Jesus as her Lord and Savior and loved going to church. Those who knew her best know that her favorite songs were “Walk With Me Lord” and “Won’t It Be Grand”.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Essie and Daniel Allen; two sons, Daniel Allen and Edgar Allen; grandchildren, Tyrone Branch, Henry Larry, and Calvin Williams; two sisters, Viola Roberts and Mary Alice Roberts; six brothers, Willie Allen, Luke Allen, Dan Allen, Isaiah Allen, Jake Allen, and Johnny Allen; and two daughters-in-law, Bertha Larry and Mary Larry.
She leaves to cherish her memories eleven children, Leroy Branch (Caroline) of Greenville, SC, Eddie Larry of Macclenny, FL, Timothy Larry (Filipina) of Woodbine, GA, Phillip Larry of Saint George, GA, Floyd Larry of Macclenny, FL, Dennis Larry (Carolyn) of Glen Saint Mary, FL, and Michael Larry (Annette) of Macclenny, FL; four daughters, Lucile Sirmones (John) of Jacksonville, FL, Essie Harvey (Kerry) of Saint George, GA, Jeanette Ruffin (Kenneth) of Douglas, Georgia, and Georgia Henderson (Van) of Douglas, GA; one devoted sister-in-law, Sarah Allen of New Brunswick, NJ. She was abundantly blessed with 45 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, and 30 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, friends, and a loving church family.
