Obituary

Jeanette Daniels Powe was born on August 1, 1934, to Ralph Donald (R.D.) Daniels and Louise Rhodes Daniels in Oviedo, Florida. She is affectionately known as “Sister” by her family. She attended the local schools in Seminole County and attended Crooms High School.

She came to know the lord at a very early age and joined the Fountain Head Baptist Church where she was later baptized. Jeanette and Prince Powe wed in Holy Matrimony in November 1961 and moved to Jacksonville Beach and joined Second Missionary Baptist Church where she was a dedicated member for over 35 years. After moving to Jacksonville Beach, Jeanette worked for the Head Start Program for many years as a head cook. She also worked as a head housekeeper. Jeanette was well known and loved throughout the Beaches community and dedicated her life to Christ and serving in the house of the lord. Affectionately known as “Mother Powe”, she was the mother of her church, New Community Baptist Church, and served as the Chairman of the Trustee Board, head of the Jr. Usher Board, and President of the Deaconess Board. She was also a member of the Kitchen Committee, #1 Choir, and Mass Choir.

Hailed as the matriarch of her family, Jeanette played a key role in raising her younger siblings at the age of 11 years old, from which she developed a passion for cooking and baking that she shared with everyone that she encountered.

Jeanette slept away peacefully into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, September 10, 2023. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph R.D. Daniels and Louise Daniels; brothers, Fletcher Lemons, Roger Daniels, Ralph Daniels Jr., and Charles Daniels; granddaughters, Candace Seymour and Sommer Archie; and great-grandson, Greysun Hemingway.
