Mother Johnnie Mae Johnson

Johnnie Mae Hill Johnson was born to John Hill and Ethel Vanno Hill Hunter (Lee) on July 29, 1929, in Macon, Bibb County Georgia. She resided in Jacksonville, Florida. From early childhood she attended the local schools of Jacksonville, graduating from Old Stanton High School.

During her youth she accepted Christ as her savior, upon marriage to Dewey Johnson she became a faithful member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church. Johnnie Mae served as a volunteer with St. Paul C.M.H. Friday Morning Volunteers which brought great joy in her life.

Johnnie Mae was a devoted home maker, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend and neighbor. Mrs. Johnnie Mae Hill Johnson entered into rest on Saturday, November 15, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Johnson; daughters, Lydia Johnson, and Janet Johnson McConnell; her mother and father, John Hill and Ethel Mae Hill Hunter (Lee); sister, Lois Hill Kendrick; brother, Fred Hill; brother-in-law, Freddie Kendrick; sister-in-law, Gwendolyn Hill; and son-in-law, Paul L. Brown.

Johnnie Mae leaves to cherish her memory loving daughters, Beverly Johnson Brown, Jacqueline Johnson Drain (Bobby), Cheryl Johnson and Kimberly Johnson Sapp (Donnie); sons, Gerald Johnson (Paula), and Tracy Johnson (Charlesetta); grandchildren, Jamie McConnell Ray (Maurice), Chenita Johnson, Brandon Sapp (Jonae) Deonna Sapp, Cortney Johnson, Nicholas Johnson, and Geremy Johnson; great-grandchildren, Kennedi, Lauryn, Lilian, Jermaine Jr., Ava, Isabella, Jace, and Brandon Jr.; nieces, Linda Kendrick, Stephanie Kendrick, and Gwendolyn Brown; nephews, Terry Kendrick (Cheryl), Michael Brown, and Duane Brown Sr.

Johnnie Mae cherished moments spent with family, she mothered with a caring heart and spirit of love, instilling in her children a sense of purpose, and faith. She always had a way of reminding us that life is made up of little things, the quiet joys and the small acts of love that build a life of meaning. For us, her children, she never had to shout or demand attention to make an impact, she led by example quietly and thoughtfully, she taught us that the true legacy is not in material things, but in the way we treat others, and the way we care for each other, she lived that truth every day.

We, her children, are so thankful to God for the 96 years HE blessed her life with. Thank you for being the person you were, thank you for being our “Johnnie”. We will continue to live, love, and think about the goodness of God.
