April 23, 1932 ~ September 24, 2022 (age 90) 90 Years Old

Mother Lola Floyd Obituary

Mother Lola Mae Floyd, affectionally known to her children and “Momsie” heard the clarion call when God summoned her to her heavenly home on Saturday, September 24, 2022 peacefully as a dove, she entered into her heavenly rest.

She was born to the late Mr. Joseph Smith and the late Mrs. Odessa Lewis Smith in Ocilla, Georgia on April 23, 1932.

She was educated in the public schools of Irwin County until she left for Jacksonville, Florida to continue her education at Edward Waters College. She later went on to complete her education at Florida State Jr. College, receiving an Associate Degree in Cafeteria Management. She was employed with the Duval County School System as a Cafeteria Manager for 33 years, finalizing her career at Moncrief Elementary School.

As a young woman she accepted the Lord as her personal Savior and served faithfully at Shiloh Baptist Church under the pastorship of Rev. A.B. Coleman. Later in life she switched her membership to Epiphany Baptist Church serving in the front office until returning to Shiloh in 2016. She was a faithful member of District 29 and the Women of Love Sunday School Class.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Deacon James P. Floyd, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her in death is her son, Alfred R. Floyd; her sisters, Mrs. Quincey Bell Rush, Mrs. Ida Mae Adams, Mrs. Josephine Hammatt, and Mrs. Martrel Williams; and brother, Mr. LeRoyal Smith.

Sister Floyd leaves to cherish and celebrate her memories, a devoted family, including her daughter, Mrs. Constance Melton (Otha); son, Dr. James G. Floyd (Loretta); daughter, Elizabeth Henderson; sister, JoEvelyn Jordan; brother-in-law, Lovette Raulerson (Narine); grandchildren, Otha Melton, Jr., Ms. Loneva Melton, Olivia Morato (Ernesto), Philip Jordan, Myra Melton, Alicia Floyd, Melisa Henderson, Jared Floyd, Annotha Comer and Cynora Hunter; godson, Mr. Marion Wilburn (Sharon); a host of other relatives and sorrowing friends, including her dearest friend, Sister Mae Crawford.
