Marie Smith Thompson, a beloved matriarch, dedicated Domestic Engineer, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 24, 2026, at the age of 97. Born on April 2, 1929, in the charming town of Thomasville, Georgia, Marie's life was a testament to resilience, love, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Marie was the treasured daughter of Viola and Early Smith, whose values and teachings she carried throughout her life. Preceded in death by her parents, siblings Early Smith, Jr., Jonelle Bell, and Ernistine Tisby, as well as her dear children Larry Thompson and Shirley Ann Thompson, and granddaughter, Santresca Sims, Marie's heart remained open, always finding strength in the love of those around her.
Marie was united in marriage with Levy Thompson, a partnership that brought forth a legacy of love and family. Together, they raised their children with warmth and devotion, instilling in them the importance of compassion, hard work, and integrity.
Marie is survived by her children, Charlie Thompson, Mary Thompson, and Gregory Thompson (Rozland), whose lives have been a reflection of her nurturing spirit. Her sister, Alice Banks, continues to carry the family torch, and her legacy extends to her grandchildren: Charlie Thomas (Saketha), Hansel Thomas, Bobby Thompson, Antonette Thompson, Sylvia Thompson, Calvin Thompson (Patricia), Lee Thompson, Duallen Sims, Gregory Thompson, Brian Thompson (Natara), Hershelle Denson (Shauncy), Latara Logan (Jermaine), Lajoe Thompson, Ebony Green, Resheema Green, Lamont Green and Jamar Thompson.
Marie was blessed with a multitude of great-grandchildren, including Dominque Perry (Robert), Deshawn Thompson, Jerrisha Crankfield, Lajerry Crankfield, Malique Golphin, Calvin Thompson, Kerianne Thompson, Anastasia Thompson, Tyquan Burroughs, Jania Thompson, Dyarius Thompson, Ashley Fulton, Jasmine Fulton, Leenard Thompson, Leejanay Thompson, Lee Thompson, Jr., Christopher Thompson, Calvin Thompson, Kayla Thomas, Calvin Thomas, Ta'tionna Thomas, Charlie Thomas, Kyra Thomas, and Angel Baker, each of whom brought her immense joy.
In addition to her immediate family, Marie was deeply loved by special friends Caroline Green, Merle Johnson, Betty Worthy, and Larry Hudson, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and countless friends who were touched by her kindness and generosity.
Marie's role as a Domestic Engineer was more than a career; it was her life's passion. She took delight in creating a warm and loving home, where all who entered felt the embrace of her hospitality and care. Her gentle smile, wisdom, and unwavering love will be profoundly missed but forever cherished by those who were blessed to know her.
As we say goodbye to Marie Smith Thompson, we celebrate a life well-lived, filled with love, laughter, and an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations. May she rest in peace, knowing her life's work and spirit will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
