Sarah Agnes Burch McGee, Tant, was born on Wednesday, March 25, 1925, in Dawson, Georgia, to the late Eugene “Doc” and Johnnie Bell Burch. She peacefully transitioned from this life on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at her home, with her daughter by her side.
Sarah received her education in the public school system of Dawson, Georgia. She later pursued training as a medical transcriptionist at Sarasota Vocational School, where she excelled at the top of her class. She worked faithfully for over 30 years with Jacobson’s Yankee Travelers, where she was known for her dedication and service, until her retirement.
In her spiritual journey, Sarah became a member of the Freewill Holiness Church in Sanford, Florida, in the 1950s, under the leadership of Ruby Lee Wilson. She later committed herself to the First-Born Church of the Living God in Sarasota, Florida, in 1960, where she served faithfully alongside her husband. They then became members of the Holy Band of Inspiration under the direction of Prophet Harry Brown. Together, they created the Good Samaritan Prayer Band of Sarasota, a ministry that touched countless lives and continued until 2012.
Throughout her years of service, Mother McGee served as a Mother of the Church, offering wisdom, guidance, and unconditional love to all. She was a pillar of the community, a devoted lover of God and His Holy Word, and a lifelong student of the Scriptures. She was affectionately known as “Mother McGee” — a mother not only to her own family, but to all who crossed her path.
She enjoyed taking care of her husband, sewing, making hats, cooking, and caring for the children. Her nurturing spirit and open heart left an indelible mark on everyone she encountered.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Buck McGee; her daughter, Elyria McGee-Hopkins; her grandson, Maurice McGee, Sr.; her sisters, Ida Smith and Ola Hardy; and her brothers, Levy Burch, Reuben Burch, and J.C. Burch.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted daughter, Rosalyn Riley (Purvis); her beloved sister, Minnie Royal; her grandchildren, Sarah McGee-Prather, Maccia Bunton (Frank), LaToya Dixson, Shawnathan McGee (Rama), Deriyun McGee, Zaunyetta McGee, Niayetta Brown, Xavier Riley (Olivia), Shelia Coats, John Coats, Brenda Ben, Shanel Siplin, Vetosa Wester, and Kathy Trotter; special son, W. Frank Dixson; special friend, Catherine King; her great-grandchildren include, Marlette, Maurice Jr., Samariah, Samyiah, Micah, Nehemiah, Ta’liseya, Elijah, Arlaunya, Elyria, Daelin, Jamie, Kaylie, Brooke, Tyson, Joshua, Zion, Trinity, Ezra, Sabali, and Iyanni; and a host of great-great-grandchildren who brought joy to her later years. In addition, she is remembered and celebrated by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended relatives, friends, and her church family.
Mother Sarah Agnes Burch McGee lived a life rooted in faith, service, and love. Her legacy of prayer, leadership, and community will continue to inspire generations to come.
