Ophelia Judson Obituary

Mother Ophelia Della Jones Morgan Judson, daughter of the late Arthur and Ethel Jones, was born February 8, 1915 in Callahan, Florida. She was educated in the School District of Nassau County.

She professed her faith in Jesus Christ and joined Greater Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Callahan, FL, under the leadership of the late of Rev. D.V. Singletary. She also served faithfully during the tenures of the late Rev. C. W. Whitten, the late Pastor Emeritus Rev. C. J. Brown, Rev. Charles E. Williams, Jr. and presently Rev. Dr. Reginald R. Edwards, Sr. She was a very dedicated and faithful member. She was a caretaker and a nurse by profession.  She also loved to care for her family and loved ones.

She was united in holy matrimony to the late Alvin A. Morgan in 1939. God blessed this union with one child, Edmond S. Morgan. Later, she married Mr. Pete Judson who proceeded her in death.

The Town of Callahan commemorated her 100th birthday by awarding her a Mayoral Proclamation in February of 2014.  The Town of Callahan continued to honor her until February 2021. On September 28, 2014, she received a plaque from Greater Mt. Pleasant. The Church recognized her again on September 22, 2019. Both of these plaques were given in honor of her service during the church anniversary both years, respectively.  She was awarded the Outstanding Citizenship Award from the Nassau County NAACP at the age of 102 in 2016.

Proceeding her in death was her parents; stepmother, Mother Essie Jones; her siblings, Helen, George, Marion, Aaron, Robert, Samuel, Lucille, Nathaniel, Willie, and Carla; and her children, Samuel (Butch) Jones, Richard Jones, and Joyce Williams.

As a result of her generous spirit and pleasant personality, she was loved by many. Her Christian life was as beautiful as the flowers that she loved so well.  Her influence will forever remain in the lives of all who knew her.

She quietly departed this life on Monday, May 17, 2021 at her home in Callahan, Florida.
