Oscar Lee Joy, Sr. was born on December 30, 1949, in Jacksonville, Florida to Lee Holmes Joy and Mildred Joy. He was the oldest of several siblings, Annie Joy, Peggy Joy Tiller (Willie), Mark Joy (Melva), Theresa Young (Marcus), Calvin Joy (Patricia), Daniel Joy (Royeller) and Patricia Y. Joy.
Oscar attended Duval County Schools and was a proud graduate of William M. Raines High School, class of 1968. Oscar was married to Patricia Faye Black for twenty-nine years until her passing. Together, they raised three children, Shannon Joy, Stacey Lester (Sterling), and Oscar Joy, Jr.
Oscar was a skilled brick mason by trade. He had a passion for building and craftsmanship. He was employed at Terminal Paper Bag, where he contributed his hard work and dedication. Oscar retired from Joy Enterprise.
Oscar was preceded in death by his parents, Lee Holmes Joy and Mildred Joy; his wife, Patricia Faye Joy; his sister, Theresa Young; and his brother-in-law, Marcus Young.
He leaves a legacy through his beloved grandchildren, Jordan S. Weatherly, Jamirya Sidney Weatherly, Shakir B. Lester, Skyler B. Lester, Sterling B. Lester, Sincere B. Lester, Myles Cash Joy and Meko R. Joy.
