Pecola “Betty” Wells was a devoted mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and cousin born on March 5,1945 in Jacksonville, Florida. She transitioned peacefully at her home in Jacksonville, Florida on Sunday, April 13, 2025, surrounded by love. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Jerry Wells, Sr. and Mary Neal Wells; her cherished sister, Mary Smith; her dear brother, Gregory Wells; her treasured son, Reginald L. Wells; and her lifelong best friend, Alberta Wells.
She leaves to cherish her memory her son, Darryl Wells, Sr.; her daughter, Yolanda Day; her grandchildren, Natara, Darryl Jr., Tiara, Darlisha, Dewena, Caressa, Nekia, Asante, Elijah, and Righteous. A host of great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren each of whom she held close in her heart. Her love also extended to her siblings, Jerry Wells, Jr. (Rose), Gloria Wells, John Wells (Alberta), Tyrone Wells (Estella), Bruce Wells, Anthony Wells, Sr. (Elizabeth), Dwayne Wells, Larry Wells (Elaine), and William Wells, along with a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Betty was a woman of deep and abiding faith; she was a devoted member and usher of African Universal Baptist Church led by her Pastor John Wells where she worshipped with conviction and grace. Her spiritual life was her guiding light, and she poured her faith into service, community, and kindness.
Betty lived a life rooted in love and selflessness. She was an active volunteer at the Lincoln Villa Community Center, where she spent countless hours uplifting others and contributing to the strength of her neighborhood. She enjoyed crocheting, crafting and cooking, known for her signature chicken and potato salad.
Professionally, Betty dedicated many years to Breidert Air Products. She was known for her tireless work ethic, reliability, and grace under pressure. Her colleagues admired her strength, humility, and the pride she took in her work until her well-earned retirement.
Betty leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and grace. She will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her radiant smile, her fierce devotion to family, and the quiet power of her presence. Her memory will continue to inspire and uplift all who knew and loved her.
