Reverend Johnny L. Shaw was born on September 28, 1945 to the late Otis and Annie Williams in Jacksonville, Florida. He attended the local schools of Duval County graduating from Northwestern Class of 1963. He joined the United States Army where he served in the Vietnam War. He was a member of the D.A.V. William Washington Chapter 7. He retired from St. John River Power Park due to illness. Johnny also worked as a Longshoreman.
Johnny accepted Christ as His Savior and was baptized and became a member of Saint Matthew Baptist Church for over 40 years. He loved to sing in the choir. He was a part of the witness team and served as a deacon. He also taught Sunday School and Men’s Bible Class. Johnny was called into the Gospel Ministry to preach the good heirs of Jesus Christ and became an associate minister.
Reverend Shaw was preceded in death by his parents. Otis Shaw and Annie Williams Shaw; three brothers, Otis Shaw, Jr., Eddie Shaw, and Allen Shaw; and one sister, Willie Mae Shaw.
Reverend Shaw leaves to cherish, his memories his devoted wife of forty-nine years, Ruby Shaw; daughter, Rhonda Taylor (Anthony); granddaughter, Ebony Griffin (William); grandson, Tyler Taylor; great granddaughter, Noel Etheridge; three sisters, Louise Gilmore (Calvin), Joan Sykes and Everlina Campbell; and host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, church family and many sorrowing friends.
