Richard Berry, 74, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, at UF Health Shands, surrounded by his beloved wife and family.
Born in Monroe, Louisiana, Richard was the son of Joe Berry and Leona Mills. He dedicated much of his life to service—first in the United States Air Force and then in the United States Army, where he served honorably as a medic. Over the course of his military career, Richard cared for countless service members with compassion and professionalism. He retired from the Army with the rank of Master Sergeant. Following his military retirement, he continued serving his country through 20 years in civil service.
He also had a brother and sister who preceded him in death. Richard was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Patricia Berry; his daughter, Kesha Berry; and his four stepchildren, Michael Calhoun (Kim), Sherrye Bell, Cheryelle LaFleur (Pierre), and Ashley Dallis. He also leaves behind many beloved grandchildren, a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will cherish his memory. He is also survived by his brother George’s wife, Iva.
Outside of work and service, Richard found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved bowling, fishing, and football. Game days were a special time—you could always find Richard near a television, enthusiastically watching and discussing plays, teams, and scores with family and friends. His warmth, easygoing nature, and spirited sports conversations brought people together and left lasting impressions on everyone he met.
Richard’s kindness, strength, and unwavering dedication to his family and country will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
