Richard Henry Roberts, Sr.

Richard Henry Roberts was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 24, 2019. He was born on September 28, 1957 to the late Orelia Simmons Robert and the late Romeo J. Roberts in Bronx, New York. At an early age his family moved to Fernandina Beach, Florida where he attended the local schools of Nassau County graduating from Peck High School in 1976. While at Peck High Richard played on the basketball team and excelled in track and field as a high jumper. He furthered his education at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) where he met the loved of his life, Nadia Adams. While at FAMU they attended all football games and tailgated. Richard loved the rivalry between FAMU and Bethume Cookman where he and his brother-in-law, Gary Adams and Larry McNear would have RV entertainment and food for everyone.

Richard worked for the Nassau County Police Department for several years. He later went on to work for Anheuser Busch in Jacksonville, Florida working 7 days a week for 20 years. After 33 years of dedicated and faithful service at Anheuser Busch he retired.

Richard empired the little league baseballs, softball and basketball games in Fernandina Beach for many of years.

Richard was a faithful and dedicated member of Saint Paul African Methodist Episcopal Church in Jacksonville, Florida under the leadership of the Reverend Doctor Marvin C. Zanders, II. He was a member of the FAMU Booster Club – Fernandina Beach, Florida Chapter. He was also a member of Elm Street Sportsman Association of Fernandina Beach, Florida.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Orelia Simmons Roberts and Romeo J. Roberts; and sister, Christine Bynes. He will be remembered as a person who loved his family, friends and enjoyed life. Richard adored and loved his children, especially his daughters there was nothing that Richard would do for his children.

Richard is survived by his devoted, dedicated and loving wife, Nadia Adams Roberts of 23 years; children, Deandra Roberts, Maisha Roberts, Ebony Roberts and Richard Roberts, Jr.; grandchildren, Amaya Thomas, Jalen Brown, De’Ayjia Randall, Hayleah Pierce, Georgia Stokes, Genesis Stokes, Geonna Stokes, Naomi Pierce and Peyton Perkins; brothers and sisters, Romeo Roberts (Carol), Waymond Roberts, Michael Thomas, Josette Donaldson, Barbara Way, Mary Ann Zoe, Shenna Hutchinson (Lavonia), Orelia Brevard and Juanita Sturdivant; supportive in-laws, Furman Adams and Yvonne Adams; heart-felt brother-in-law, Gary F. Adams, Sr. (Jackie); loving sister-in-law, Karen Adams Boyd (Michael); and a host of caring cousin, nieces, nephews and call at any moment friends. Special thanks to Romeo Roberts, Diana Mingo, Shirley Wilson, Larry McNear, Michael Russell, Community Hospice of Northeast Florida, special nurse, George and social worker, Nichelle Jackson.
