Robert Clarence Harris, affectionately known as "Sunny Boy," graced this world with his presence on April 17, 1936, in Blackshear, Georgia. He departed peacefully on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, in Jacksonville, Florida, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, service, and love that will resonate with all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Born to Emanuel and Gertie Harris, Robert was the embodiment of warmth and compassion. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, as well as his brothers, Leroy Harris and Willie Jerome Harris. Despite these losses, Robert's spirit remained unyielding, and he dedicated his life to uplifting those around him.
On July 30, 1976, Robert married Angela Hopkins, creating a partnership built on love, mutual respect, and shared adventures. Together, they nurtured a family that embodies the values Robert held dear.
Education was important to Robert, who proudly attended the local school district of Jesup, Georgia, and later graduated from Walker College in 1958. His professional journey included a fulfilling career at Badcock Furniture, where he spent twenty-one years as the owner, and he retired from the United States Army after an impressive twenty-nine years of dedicated service. He was not only a soldier but a true black superhero to many, embodying the values of discipline, honor, and commitment.
Robert's passion for serving his community was evident in every aspect of his life. He was a kind and helpful person who always sought ways to lift others up. His warm smile and generous spirit will be dearly missed, but the impact of his kindness will live on through the memories he created with family and friends.
Sunny Boy is survived by his devoted wife, Angela Harris; and children, Garold Harris (Delores), April Harris, and Robert Harris III (Tashenna). His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Travis McCall, Kiara Harris, Garold Harris II, Kendrick Wyche, Robert Harris II, Noah Harris, and Raina Harris, as well as his beloved great-grandchild, Kay'Cee Wyche. Robert also leaves behind his in-laws, George Harris, Allie Mae Hopkins, and Thelma Harris, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and countless friends whose lives he touched.
In remembering him, let us celebrate a man who lived with purpose and passion—a man who truly was a beacon of light in the lives of many. As we gather to say goodbye, let us remember the qualities that made Robert Clarence Harris so special: his strength, compassion, and unwavering determination to make the world a brighter place. May his spirit continue to inspire those he left behind to live each day with the same kindness and love he shared so generously.
