Robert Charlie “RC” Laurie, 88, of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 4, 2025. Born on June 3, 1936, in Madison, Florida, RC was the beloved son of Mose and Jessie Lauria. He was a proud veteran of the United States Army, where he served his country with dignity and received an honorable discharge — a fitting reflection of the honorable life he led.
RC was known for his warm heart, humble spirit, and infectious smile that could light up any room. He lived simply but loved deeply, and his genuine nature left a lasting impression on everyone he met. RC believed in celebrating others, even when he asked for little himself.
His greatest joy in life was his son, Kenneth “Pop” Keeley. RC beamed with pride whenever he spoke of Pop, and the bond they shared was truly special. In RC’s later years at the nursing home, their visits were marked by laughter, love, and a few playful secrets — including the occasional “contraband” snuck in by his son. Together, they shared countless moments watching old westerns, with RC laughing as though it were the first time, every time.
Family meant everything to RC. His Friday phone calls with his sister, Lottie, were a cherished tradition that always left him smiling. He loved and valued those moments of connection, always finding joy in the simple act of conversation and shared memories.
RC was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings, Ola C. Lauria, Roosevelt Laurie, Bishop Laurie, Jack Laurie, Mattie Green, Beulah Aikins, Ezell Moore, and Julia Davis.
He leaves to carry on his legacy his devoted son, Kenneth L. Keeley, and his loving daughter-in-law, Kelli Keeley; his adoring grandchildren, Khortni Keeley, Khyra Keeley and Khayla Kearney (Amilio); great-grandchildren, Amilio Kearney, Jr. and Kennedy Buteau all of Jacksonville, Florida. He is also survived by his cherished sister, Lottie Hadley; his special friend, Mack; and a host of nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will miss him dearly.
RC’s life was one marked by quiet strength, unwavering love, and an open heart. He passed from this life just as he lived it — with grace, with dignity, and with a smile for his beloved son.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in RC’s memory to River Garden Hebrew Home for the Aged, the long-term care facility that provided him with such compassionate care in his final years.
RC Laurie will be remembered always for the love he gave, the laughs he shared, and the honorable life he lived. May he rest in peace.
