Roma Annette Shoy was born on June 30, 1952, in St. Johnson’s Village, Basseterre, St. Kitts, to the loving union of Joseph and Myrtle Grant. She began her education at St. Johnson’s Village School and later attended the prestigious Basseterre Girls’ High School, proudly graduating with the Class of 1969. Determined to further her studies, Roma went on to earn her Associate’s Degree from Jones College in Jacksonville, Florida.
Having accepted Christ at an early age, Roma remained a devoted member of the St. Johnson’s Methodist Church throughout her youth. She built a meaningful and accomplished career as a Purchasing Agent with the Department of Defense, faithfully serving for more than 30 years.
Roma was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Myrtle Grant; her brothers Valentine and Conrad Grant; and her sister Joycelyn “Euvonne” Grant.
Though we are deeply saddened by the loss of her physical presence, we take comfort in knowing that she has answered a higher calling. The family is sustained by cherished memories, enduring faith, and the strength that comes from the love she shared so generously.
Roma leaves to celebrate her life and legacy her devoted husband, Douglas E. Shoy; her children, Nicole A. Payne, Hilaire V. Shoy, and Brandon D. Shoy; and her beloved grandchildren, Brittni N. Mitchell, Krysten A. Payne, James R. Knotts, and Johnathan J. Lynch. She is also survived by her siblings, Eustace Grant (Karina), Brenda White (Neville), Maureen “Angie” Grant (Rudolph), Wingrove “Alton” Grant (Denise), Malcolm “Junior” Grant (Bernadette), Denise Petersen, and Devon Grant; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends who will forever cherish her memory.
Roma’s life was a testament to faith, dedication, and love. Her legacy lives on in all who were blessed to know her.
