Roy Harvey Owens, Sr.

Roy Harvey Owens, Sr. was born on August 18, 1959 to the late James E. Owens and Martha Owens Thomas. He was born in Bamberg, South Carolina and later moved to Jacksonville, Florida where he attended the local schools of Duval County graduating from New Stanton High School class of 1977. Roy was a skilled construction worker for over 30 years and was employed with DNS Contracting for several years.

On Saturday, February 13, 2021 Roy Harvey Owens, Sr. transitioned from this earthly life to take his rest in his eternal home of glory. He was preceded in death by both his parents; his son, Nelson Jones, Sr.; his sisters, Emma and Eloise; his brothers, Leon and James; and sister-in-law, Caroline.  

Roy leaves to cherish his memories, his beautiful, loving and devoted wife, Alvie R. Owens; devoted son, Roy Harvey Owens, Jr.; daughters, Lacendia Mitchell (Arthur), Shcle Clements and Nadia Clements; grandchildren, Danielle Lee, Tavosia Mitchell, Hennessy Jones, Deja Foster, Nelson Jones, Jr., Javon Jones and Arthur Lee Mitchell, III; great grandchildren, Prosper Randall, Cassius Jones, Kyree Johnson, Ka’Myah Leonard and Ka’Leah Leonard; siblings, Hilda Burrigan, Rayford Owens, Charles Owens (Vera), Opal Smith, Ethen McMillian, Lena McMillian, Vera Kirkland, Nancy Trinity, Lorthel Simmons and Daniel Kelly; sisters-in-law, Velinda Owens, Susan Pino, Sharon Morrison, Andrea Ford and Terrie Harris; loving niece, Kimyata M. Smart (Kelvin); and a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and a multitude of relatives and sorrowing friends.
