Samuel McFadden, Sr. was born on December 24, 1945 in Manning, South Carolina to the late Willie and Moultrie Bell McFadden. He was known to many as Sam, Ted, Fatlady. The family relocated to Jacksonville, Florida in 1954 and he attended the Duval County Public School System, graduated from New Stanton in 1963. He grew up in the Jacksonville neighborhoods of McCormick Street, and Lockhart Drive.
Samuel was drafted into the United States Army May 5, 1966, severed in Vietnam, and recipient of several badges and medals; National Defense Service metal, Army Commendation metal, Vietnam Campaign metal, Vietnam Service Medal, Air Medal, 2 Purple Heart Medals, Sharpshooter Badge (rifle), and Combat Infantry Badge. He was honorably discharged May 3, 1968 into Reserve status until May 4, 1972.
Ted returned home from military duties and was employed by Anheuser-Busch Corporation (AB) in 1969. During his employment tenure with AB, he played on the AB Softball team. He was given the nickname “Fatlady” by his coworkers. He was a dedicated employee and retired in 2004.
Ted was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to many. He enjoyed traveling to visit with family and friends. He was lively in spirit, and joyfully entertaining. He was also straight to the point, meant what he said and said what he meant. He had a love and passion for Fishing. Most of all, he was a believer in the death and resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
He was preceded in death by his brothers, Lizzie McFadden, Norman McFadden, Leroy McFadden, Paul McFadden, and William McFadden; and sisters, Ida Mae McFadden, and Naomi Epps.
He leaves to cherish his memories by his devoted wife, Constance Harris McFadden; seven children, Byron McFadden (Hope), Latefa McFadden-Dawkins (Theo), Samuel McFadden Jr., Chiquita McFadden, Joyce Ann Holland, Robert Holland (Selena), and Sonya Cravin (Terrance); twenty-four grandchildren; twenty-nine great grandchildren; brother, Philip McFadden, Sr. (Rosa Jefferson); sisters, Doris McFadden, Mary McFadden Harris (Solomon), and Beverly Cooper; god-children, Latefa Masoline and Torrence Queen Jr.; mother-in-law, Mattie Harris Washington; sisters-in-law, Francis McFadden, Geraldine Harriel (Alvin), Evelyn Harris Mitchell (Dr. Rev Isaac), and Fawn Edwards (Alex); brothers-in-Law, James Harris, Varick Harris, Roderick Harris (Veronica), and Demetris Silas (Theresa); special friends, George Smith and Jerome Harrison; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many sorrowing friends.
