Samuel Bruce Wiggins, Sr. was born on August 10, 1971, in Jacksonville, Florida to Eugene Wiggins and Louris Scott. He passed away on May 3, 2023, preceded in death by his beloved grandmother, Helen Benekin Bruce. Sam had a deep love for fishing, travel, and family. He found solace in nature and adventure in exploring new places with his loved ones. He married his beloved wife, Ann, in 1992 and they enjoyed 30 wonderful years together. Sam was a faithful member of Joshua Christian Faith Center and served in the choir ministry.
Sam was a 1989 graduate of William M. Raines High School where he lettered in football. He served in the United States Army, earning the Army Commendation Medal for his service. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice from Chaminade University of Honolulu, he embarked on a successful career as a Federal Employee with nearly 13 years at the Department of Veteran Affairs. During his time in the military, Sam developed a deep love for travel, which led him to explore many corners of the world with family and friends, creating unforgettable memories. In the Spring of 2005, Sam became a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.- Phi Xi Chapter.
Sam always had a smile on his face, a joke to tell, and never met a stranger. He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife, Ann; and their children, Janay Johnson, Samuel Wiggins, Jr., Samiriah Wiggins, and Cory Calkins. He is also survived by his mother, Louris Scott (James); his father, Eugene Wiggins (Veronica); his sisters, Sonya Lucas, Wonya Mitchell (Castillo), Monica Stephens (Kevin), and Janice Wiggins; his brother/cousin, Kenneth Bruce, Jr.; his uncle, Kenneth Bruce, Sr.; and his mother-in-law, Lidia Bess. Sam's memory will be cherished by his sister-in-law, Cynthia Martin (Vernard); brothers-in-law, Eugene Bess (Gina) and Christopher Bess; his grandchildren, Evan Roberts, Ariahnna Roberts, Aveah Laney, and Jynx Wiggins; his aunt, Shirley Armstrong; nieces and nephews, Helana Capers, Jhazmin Thomas, Castillo Mitchell, Wanya Mitchell and Joshua Stephens; and his godchildren, Jayden Turner, Jordan Turner, Aneesa Washington, Aiyana Beaty, Autumn Beaty, Kharter Jones, and Bentley Jones. His closest Omega Psi Phi Fraternity brothers, Shujuan Washington, Jeff Turner, and Ayo Saba; along with a host of sorrowful relatives, members, and friends, will forever remember Sam's love for family, traveling, and the joy he brought to their lives.
