Sandra Regina Spates, aged 78, passed away on Saturday, April 4, 2026, in Jacksonville, Florida, the city where she was born on February 18, 1948. Sandra's life was marked by her dedication to her family and her career in healthcare, which spanned several respected institutions including St. Vincent's Hospital, Hyde Park Nursing Home, Eartha White Nursing, VNA Nursing, and Home Health Care.
A graduate of Northwestern High School in 1965, Sandra furthered her education by becoming a Certified Nursing Assistant in 1985 through the State of Florida Department of Education. Her professional life was devoted to caring for others, a testament to her compassionate nature and commitment to service.
Sandra was a devout member of Shiloh Metropolitan Baptist Church in Jacksonville, FL, where she participated in various church activities and formed lasting relationships with her church family.
Sandra leaves behind her children, Sheldon D. Spates and Davin M. Harris; grandchildren, Xavier C. Spates, Zaria E. Spates, Zion M. Spates, Addison L. Harris, and Ashlynn L. Harris; siblings Janice Spates Herring, Jacquline Y. Spates, Vanette S. McKinnies (Frederick), and Eunice S. Rogers (Larry); sister-in-law, Gladys Spates; daughter-in-law, Mia D. Harris; and close friends Jenice Bell, Mr. Cox, Wayne McCollors, Ms. Lamar, and Gwen Turner. Sandra's life was also enriched by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of sorrowing friends who will miss her dearly.
Sandra was preceded in death by her father, John H. Spates; mother, Cnettie Spates; brother, Laudred Jerome Spates; and niece, Kenya Lynch.
Sandra's legacy of love, compassion, and community service will continue to influence and inspire those who were fortunate to know her. Her family and friends will gather to honor her memory and celebrate her life, cherishing the moments they shared with a truly remarkable woman.
