Shirley Mixson Foster was born January 24, 1950, to George Mixson, Sr. and Frances Thomas Mixson in Jacksonville, Florida. She was reared in a home filled with love from her parents and siblings. The oldest of five children, she attended the local public schools in Duval County. She graduated from William M. Raines Senior High School in 1968 and later graduated from Jones Business College.
Shirley married the love of her life Allen J. Foster, Jr., November 18, 1972, in the home of her parents. To this union a beautiful baby girl, Stephanie Foster was born. They shared life together fifty years and nine months. Shirley was a dedicated employee of Wells Fargo as a System Analyst where she retired with thirty-five years of commendable service.
As a big sister, Shirley provided guidance to all her younger siblings and kept an open door to talk with each of them about anything. Shirley loved her family dearly and would often tell them that she loved them. Shirley later took on the responsibility of being a part time Caregiver to her mother and sister.
Shirley and Allen were avid travelers always on the go at the drop of a hat. Most trips were spontaneous in nature which made them more enjoyable. Shirley and Allen became business owners through Paradise Dream Investment Club. In addition, Shirley and Allen are devoted Board Members of Paradise Dream Investment Club.
Shirley was preceded in death by her father, George Mixson, Sr.; brothers, George Mixson, Jr., and Leonard Mixson; nephews, Derrick Mixson, Christopher Mixson and Kerry Greene, III; niece, Jazlyn Mixson; mothers-in-law, Daisy Foster and Louise Foster; father-in-law, Allen Foster, Sr.; grandmothers, Frenchel Thomas and Hattie Mixson; and grandfathers, Willie Thomas, and Jacob Mixson.
Shirley leaves to cherish her life, loving husband, Allen Foster; devoted daughter, Stephanie Gelsey; grandchildren, Shayla Gelsey, Richard Gelsey and Reshawn (Kaylin) Gelsey; great grandchildren, Layla Byrd, Lauryn Byrd and Aniyah Jacobs; mother, Frances Mixson; sister, Jeanette Mobley; brother, Gerald Mixson (Derrell); nieces, Shawanna Greene, Tanese Terry, Shantrell Mixson, and Chaundra Mixson; nephew, Gerald Mixson; seventeen great nieces and nephews; eleven great-great nieces and nephews; godchildren, Robert Channelle and Shawntrell James-Vogt; aunt, Jannie Mae Mixson; and a host of cousins, other relatives, friends, her beloved Paradise Dreamers Investment Club members and church family.
