Shirley Jean Grant was born to the union of T.C. and Essie Grant. She was the fourth of nine children. Shirley grew up in the Altgeld Gardens Community of Chicago, Illinois in Block 2. She was very close to her siblings; they were never too far away from one another whether it be a phone call or a drive to see her, they were there for each other. Wherever you saw Scown (Johnny), rest assured Shirley wasn't too far behind.
Shirley worked various jobs in the city, but she loved spending time with her children and grandchildren most of all. She also loved cooking, listening to music, dancing and hanging out with family and friends. She lived a full life until she became ill. Shirley relocated to Jacksonville, Florida to be closer to her daughter Venus, who cared for her until her passing.
Shirley's parents, T.C. Grant, Essie B. Grant; husband, Stephen Pittman; brothers, T.C. Grant, Jr. and Johnny Grant; sister, Inez (Punkin) Grant-Lee; daughter, Andrea Williams; and granddaughter, Arianne McCradic, have preceded her in death.
To cherish her memory, she leaves her loving and devoted children, Inita Washington (Rodney), Stephen Pittman, Michael Pittman (Samantha), Venus Pittman and Michelle Heard (Terry). Her siblings, Bobby Grant, Lawrence Grant, Carolyn Caldwell (Randolph), Kay Floyd and Maenitta Thomas (Troy). Twenty-three grandchildren, many great and great great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Momma, we love you dearly and can't wait to see you again in your glorified body in heaven....
