Steve Flynn Obituary

On January 25, 1952 at Brewster Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida, the breath of God blew upon the earth and once again a living soul was born to Mildred Nesbitt and Willie A. Flynn, Sr. name him Steve Wendell Flynn.

During the early years of his childhood, he spent time in New York City from there he relocated to Jacksonville, Florida (Southside) attending local schools and graduating from Samuel W. Wolfson High School class of 1970.

In 1970 Steve joined the United States Navy assigned to the USS Rathburne DE1057 at Pearl Harbor, HI spending 12 plus years in the Naval Reserve. During his adventure in Hawaii, he met his bride Darlene. Coming back to the heart of his roots, his grannie/mom, Ethel McNair in 1974 to introduce his new found love, Darlene. On December 14, 1974 they married, to which they enjoyed 45 years of love and happiness together. They were the couple that honored their vows to the end.

Returning back, he attended Massey Business College for a short period and then gained employment with the Federal Reserve Bank for 35 years until his health begin to fail. Steve was his own person on any given day, but to know him you couldn’t do nothing but, love him. Steve had a favorite food those Krystal Burgers and Pepsi, between him and Howard they tried to out eat each other at Mother Nadine’s house to which he considered her as his other mother as with, he displayed great love for her.

On Saturday, November 28, 2020 God called that breath back unto Himself, calling him home with Darlene by his side. He was preceded in death by his father, Willie A. Flynn, Sr.; his grandmother, Ethel McNair; grandparents, Inez and Welton Flynn; aunts, Ceushery Baker and Pauline Legare; and uncles, Bernard Flynn, Milton Flynn and H. Welton Flynn.

Memories of Steve will forever be cherished by his loving wife, Darlene Mitchell Flynn; mother, Mildred Ojetta Nesbitt of New York City; his other mother, Nadine Brown; siblings, Howard Flynn, Valerie Flynn-Randolph (Tony Sr.), Willie Flynn, Jr., Anthony Flynn (Mary), Ervin Flynn (Cheryl) and Latonia Flynn; aunts, Lillia Saunders of Pompano Beach, FL, Evelyn M. Lewis (James), Delores Brisbon of Philadelphia, PA and Barbara Flynn-Tolliver (John); sister-in-law, Lana Saint Michel (AZ); brother-in-law, Jerry Mitchell (OR); his sister from another mother, Nancy Sizemore; his brother from another mother, Kenn Ley; special friends, Granville Calhoun and David Bolton; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
