Sylvia Brown Mathis was born on December 12, 1945 to the late Johnnie Brown, Sr. and Mary Thomas in Jacksonville, Florida. She attended the local schools of Duval County.
Sylvia was united in Holy Matrimony to Lloyd Brown, Sr., and from this union two children were born. She later was met and married Wilson Mathis, Sr. She was a teacher in the Broward County and Duval County Public School Systems. Sylvia was a devoted member of First Baptist Piney Grove in Fort Lauderdale, Florida and later St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, Florida.
Sylvia Brown Mathis went home to be with the Lord on Monday, October 4, 2021. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Lloyd Brown, Sr., and Wilson Mathis, Sr.; her children Lloyd Brown, Jr., Kenneth Brown, Annette Marie Daniels and Latrece Brown; and her parents, Johnnie Brown, Sr. and Mary Thomas.
Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories, children, Vanessa Chapman and Craig Brown, Sr.; her bonus children, Sharon Young, Sylvia Brown, James Brown (Lori), Margie Brown, Sylvester Brown, Agatha Brown (Junior) and Rachel Brown; 38 grandchildren; 48 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; her siblings, Donald Brown Sr. (Terry), Ivan Brown Sr. (Diane), Doris Banks, Kenneth Brown Sr. (Deborah) and Darryl Brown (Barbara); godchildren, Kendra Sorice and Isaih Washington; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and many sorrowing friends.
