Ms. Sylvia Renee Spivey’s book of life closed on Monday, July 26, 2021. Cherishing Sylvia’s memory and legacy are her lifelong love, Michael A. Spivey, Sr., Grand Chancellor of the Grand Lodge, Knights of Pythias, Jurisdiction of Florida, and their son, Markello A. Spivey.
Born in Orlando Florida on December 9, 1965 to Virginia and Delaware Harper, she attended the local Duval County schools, and was a 1985 graduate of Samuel W. Wolfson High School Jacksonville Florida.
In her free time, she enjoyed playing Spades, IPad coloring, and spending time with family. Sylvia also loved to travel, and went many places. Three trips were especially poignant to her--- Seeing her beloved son, Markello, receive his BS and Masters’ Degrees from Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University (FAMU) in 2018, and respectively. On her final trip, she journeyed to Houston, Texas, in June 2021 to witness him receiving, with honors, The degree of Juris Doctorate from the Thurgood Marshall School of Law, at Texas Southern University.
She was employed for 20 years as a Certified Medical Assistant, and was employed with Woodland Grove (formerly Southpoint Terrace) Health and Rehabilitation Center for more than 15 years.
Sylvia attended First Baptist Church of Mandarin, Dr. Gary L. Williams, Sr., Pastor, for 25 + years.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father; grandmother, Sadie Fillmore; grandfather, Kelly Scipio; uncle, Jesse Lee Scipio; aunts, Alberta Pearson, Juanita Taylor, and Aris Houston; and her beloved mother-in-law, Annie Mae Spivey.
In addition to her husband and son, Sylvia leaves to mourn her passing but cherish her memories, her sister, Chiquita Harper; stepchildren, Rosalynn and Michael A. Spivey, Jr., in-laws, Charles Spivey (Pat), Charlene Jackson (Larry), and Maxine Spivey; beloved goddaughter, Daunjnae Brown; best friend, Tammie Robinson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
