Brother Talmadge Hancel Gainey was born on October 20, 1929 in St. George, Georgia to the late Raliford Gainey and Thelma F. Thompson-Gainey.
He joined the U. S. Army on February 27, 1951 and became a Military Police, Private E1 and received an Honorable Discharge on February 26, 1953. After being discharged he begin working at Stone Container, Yulee Plant on July 17, 1956 and retired on December 31, 1994.
Brother Gainey joined Greater Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorage of the Late Pastor Emeritus Rev. C. J. Brown.
Brother Gainey and Sister Willie Nell were united in 1964 and were married on June 19, 2007 and to this union one daughter was born, Kaley Nicole “Nickie” Gainey.
Brother Gainey answered the Master called on Saturday, March 14, 2020 at UF Shands North. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings twin brothers, Robert Ashier and William F. Gainey; brother, Jackie H. Gainey; and a sister, DeMaurice Gainey Harvey.
He leaves to cherish his precious memories of 57 years wife, Willie Nell Upshaw Gainey; son, Ron Greg Upshaw (Rachel) of Pompano Beach, FL; daughter, Nickie Gainey Hannan of Yulee, FL; 4 grandchildren, Brandon Upshaw, Destiny Hannan, Jobe Hannan and Caleb Hannan; sister, Hilda Faye Gainey-Harvey of Macclenny, FL; favorite niece, Diana; and a host of nieces and nephews and friends.
